DIY: film container pot enclosure

when adding a control dial to some device sometimes it is more challenging how to mount the new pot than the electronic intervention itself. there’s either not enough space on the control surface or drilling a hole would be the bitch; at the best it’s all just about connecting a potentiometer to an existing footpedal jack. a simple external solution might be using a film roll container:

DIY film container pot enclosure - single parts (film container, potentiometer & knob)
material:
- 35mm film container
- potentiometer & knob
- cable & cable tie

tools: soldering iron, drill

optional:
- connector assembly as desired
- microphone boom

    how to:

  1. drill holes into film container and lid. check if pot and cable fit through the holes.
  2. solder the cable wires to the pot.
  3. mount the pot inside the film container
  4. run the cable through the little hole in the lid and fix it with a cable tie.
  5. DIY film container pot enclosure - mounted parts (pot mounted inside filmbox, cable soldered to pot running through little hole in the lid)

  6. close the lid and assemble the other end of the cable as you like (TRS for footpedal jack, etc.pp)
  7. DIY film container pot enclosure - mounted parts (closed filmbox with potentimeter knob mounted)

  8. to reach the new control dial from wherever you want to, clamp it on a microphone boom and start twisting.
  9. DIY film container pot enclosure - mounted on microphone boom
