28.03.2008: stammtisch orchester

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

those magnificent men with their DIYing machines:

flyer: stammtisch orchester

the pack of the 19-inch regulars’ table pool together to form a giant live-jam - the “stammtisch orchester” is asking for the next dance.

for about half a year the friends of “real” electronic instruments met and fiddled with their oscillators. by now the electronic heads got the urge to put all their stuff onto stage to form a grand ensemble off the beaten track of their usual live acts. given that most of them come from different musical genres, like techno/house, IDM or noise, actually isn’t amiss but rather a melting pot to diversify the live performance…

AKAI XR10 ready for bending

Wednesday, January 2nd, 2008

as a follow-up to the regulars’ table i was fiddling with
lars’ AKAI XR-10 to check out the options of circuit bending according to this drum machine.

unlike other (more popular?) beat boxes there’re few sources about this one and we had to find out on our own where to apply the short circuits. fortunately sound-eproms are easy to find on a PCB and in this case it’s the ICs 9/10 to lift the AKAI sound up to the 21st century.

allright - ready to bend, as we now the know bending joints next step is to build the patch matrix. as featured in the video there’s one of them crashing the machine, maybe better to leave out that one ;) stay tuned…

UPDATE: meanwhile i got a manual for the XR10 too:
